Professional Tax Calculator India

Find the monthly professional tax deducted in your state based on your gross salary and the calendar month.

Professional tax is a state levy deducted from salary. Select your state, gross salary and month; the calculator looks up the PT slab for that state and month, including half-yearly or annual deduction schedules.

Professional tax is a state-level tax on income from salary or profession. It is deducted by the employer and deposited with the state government. The slabs, ceilings and deduction months vary by state.

Some states deduct PT monthly; others deduct a half-yearly or annual amount only in specific months. This calculator uses the configured slab data for the selected state.

How the calculation works

  1. Pick state: PT slabs are state-specific and stored in the paysaathi database.
  2. Enter gross salary: the slab is matched against the gross income range.
  3. Pick month: for non-monthly frequencies, PT is deducted only in the listed deduction months.
  4. Result: the tax amount for that month, or zero if no deduction is due.

Worked example

In Karnataka, the common monthly PT for a salary of ₹25,000 is ₹200. For a salary above ₹25,000, the Karnataka monthly slab is typically ₹208. The calculator returns zero for months not listed in a half-yearly or annual slab.
